2025 Community Volunteer Ambassador (CVA)

Paid 1 year internship with the Guam National Park Service War in the Pacific National Park

Youths (ages 18-30, or up to 35 for veterans) PAID internship opportunity! Become our next Community Volunteer Ambassador and make a difference in our island community by assisting our park with climate change, conservation, and preservation projects on our national park sites.

Requirements

  • 18-30 years old (35 for veterans)

  • Able to work outdoors

  • Dependable with reliable transportation

  • Able to work from January to December

  • Be a US citizen or permanent, legal US resident. International students are not eligible.

  • Be eligible to serve in an AmeriCorps term of service. 

    • Pass state and federal criminal history checks.

    • Have served no more than three previous AmeriCorps terms. 

Location: Santa Rita-Sumai, Guam

The CVA position will start on Tuesday, January 21, and run for 48 weeks until Friday, December 19, 2025.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Engage with the public to create awareness of climate change and how it effects the lives of our coastal community.

  • Create and coordinate events, programs, and exhibit style pop-ups (to include materials used) of environmental and anthropogenic threats to our unique island ecosystems.

  • Utilize volunteers in parks during annual and monthly clean up events to help beautify the park and use the events as an opportunity for engagement regarding climate change and the impacts on the environment. i.e.: sand sifting for microplastics and other small trash, removing invasive plant species, monitoring water quality and temperature, refuse, reuse, reduce and recycle, native tree planting, pack in pack out concepts.

  • Recruit reoccurring volunteers to assist with awareness programs.

  • Engage with and make connections with government, business and community organizations who are also involved with climate change awareness efforts and forge partnerships with them.

  • Identify and make contacts with underserved, climate change affected community groups to engage with on climate change programs.

Benefits:

  • $600/week living stipend.

  • $150/week in housing allowance, if housing is not provided.

  • The position is eligible for an AmeriCorps Education Award $7,395.00 (pre-tax) upon successful completion of the program

  • $1,200 in Professional Development funds for training, networking, conferences, and/or travel.

  • Networking opportunities within the National Park Service and partnering organizations

  • Public Land Corps Hiring Authority

  • Week-long in-person training at NPS site with travel/meal expenses covered.
