Accessing the Deep: Deep Ocean Training & Mentoring Program
The Ocean Discovery League has a new deep-sea training and mentoring program that is open to early-career ocean professionals from the Pacific. The program includes 10 weeks of virtual training sessions from June 17th - August 19th followed by 5 months of online mentoring to support the development of localized research projects.

Micronesian MS Student Scholarship to RIT
The US Forest Service (USFS) and Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) are offering a full tuition scholarship and stipend for a qualified Micronesian student to earn a Masters Degree in Environmental Science or Imaging Science from RIT while assisting with the USFS/RIT project, “Pacific network to monitor mangrove response to sea-level rise (PACMAN)”

Coral Reef Management & Restoration Intern
The Guam Coral Reef Initiative (that’s us!) is hiring a Coral Reef Management & Restoration Intern for summer 2024. The Coral Reef Management & Restoration Intern will be provided training and experience opportunities in a wide range of coral reef and marine management activities. This is a temporary position with an anticipated length of 10-12 weeks (dependent on applicant availability) and a flexible start date on or around May 20, 2024.

National Geographic Society & The Nature Conservancy Marine and Community Conservation Remote Externship
Research and explore a marine conservation issue and how communities come together to sustainably resolve it. This remote, part-time externship is open to candidates ages 18-25 around the world who have an interest in marine conservation. No prior work experience is required.

2024 Guam STEM High School Summer Internship
The NSF Seas Island Alliance in Guam has opened applications for a 2024 summer STEM internship for local students in 10th and 11th grade. The internship introduces students to research in the fields of botany, marine biology, environmental science, ecology, and sustainability. The program runs from May 27th - July 3rd and includes a $1000 stipend.

The War in the Pacific National Historic Park is hiring an Education Technician to deliver interpretive programs, operate an information desk, and develop educational opportunities for local K-12 students. This position is open to U.S. Citizens.

Watershed Management Coordinator
The Guam Coral Reef Initiative (that’s us!) is seeking applicants for a Watershed Management Coordinator. Tasks will include, but are not limited to: conducting watershed mapping and field surveys, coordinating the development of the Piti-Asan watershed management plan, developing educational materials for local residents, and leading community watershed tours!

Young Pacific Leaders Regional Workshop on Media Literacy and Journalism
The Young Pacific Leaders Regional Workshop on Media Literacy and Journalism will be held on September 11-13 in Nuku’alofa, Tonga. It will bring together 30 young leaders to expand knowledge regarding media literacy, journalism, and pressing issues facing the Pacific region, including climate change and resilience. Applications are available to have all travel expenses covered.

Earth Echo Ocean Protection Ambassador
In 2024, the Ocean Protection Ambassadors will equip eight youth leaders ages 17-22 with funds and training to design and execute campaigns mobilizing communities to help advance ocean protections and achieve the goal of protecting 30% of America’s waters by 2030 (30x30). This fellowship runs from March 6 - August 31, 2024. There is one fellowship position available for a Guam resident working remotely.

Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship
The PI-CASC track of the Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship (SURF) program provides promising undergraduates the opportunity to gain valuable research experience, improve their skills in climate science, and expand their knowledge of environmental issues in Hawaiʻi and Guam. Students are paired with a mentor at the University of Hawaii (UH), the University of Guam (UOG), or a federal research center depending on their location. This summer fellowship is open to undergraduate students enrolled in UH or UOG. It is also open to undergrads attending any accredited two- or four-year institution if they attended high school in Hawaii or Guam.

Summer Graduate Research Course in Australia
Dr. Tyler Cyronak from Georgia Southern University and Dr. Lauren Nadler from the University of Southampton are leading a National Science Foundation (NSF) International Research Experiences for Students program to explore the coral reefs of Australia for US-based graduate students. Students will explore various disciplines related to coral reef science with the goal to provide future coral reef scientists with the transdisciplinary perspective necessary to study, preserve, and restore coral reef ecosystems in a changing world.

Natural Resource Management Assistant Summer Internship
The War in the Pacific National Historic Park is offering a summer internship position with the Natural Resource Division. This is a paid ($640/week) internship and is a great opportunity for undergraduate students to gain experience working in natural resources during their summer break.

Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program
The NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries is seeking applications for the Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program from individuals, particularly women and minorities, who due to financial constraints, may not otherwise be able to pursue an advanced degree (Masters or Ph.D.) in oceanography, marine biology, maritime archaeology—these may include, but are not limited to ocean and/or coastal: engineering, social science, marine education, marine stewardship, cultural anthropology, and resource management disciplines.

Guam Coastal Zone Management Special Projects Coordinator

Navigating Home Early Career Fellowship
The University of Guam Center for Island Sustainability and Sea Grant's 2023 National Science Foundation Navigating Home Early-Career Fellowship Program is taking steps to combat brain drain and its impact on the island’s development.
The five-year program will provide opportunities to 68 fellows and 68 professionals from Guam, Puerto Rico, and the US Virgin Islands. Navigating Home participants will collaborate with universities, non-profits, government agencies, and community organizations within their respective territorial program hubs. Young professionals can apply for early-career fellowships at UOG or in local government agencies.

Research Associate II (G3 Circular Economy – CIS/Sea Grant)
The Research Associate II will support the goals of the Pacific Research on Island Solutions for Adaptation (RISA) and the University of Guam (UOG) Center for Island Sustainability (CIS)/ Sea Grant (SG) programs through a focus on the Guam Green Growth (G3) initiative. The individual will lead the economic valuation assessments of sustainable actions facilitated through the G3 initiative. The individual will also research, evaluate, and support the development of circular economy products for Guam and regional island partners.

Community Engagement Specialist
Direct several community, volunteer, and public education events annually. Direct social media and develop resources detailing the project through traditional media outlets (newspaper, TV) and social media (Facebook, Instagram). Conduct independent research to support the development of a report which details the historical and contemporary characteristics of the project sites. Activities may include archival research, interviews, and coordinating public engagement events.

More Like Jimmy Scholarship for Marine or Environmental Science
This scholarship was created in honor of Jimmy Hall to pass on the spirit of curiosity and excitement for sharks and their world. Jimmy inspired countless people with his energy, enthusiasm, and infectious personality. His unwavering hunger for life and sense of adventure left most who met him striving to be “More Like Jimmy.” Jimmy died in 2007, during one of his many great adventures, a BASE jumping expedition to Baffin Island in the Arctic.

Fish and Wildlife Biologist

FELLOWSHIP: Guam NOAA Coral Fellow
The host agency for the 2024-2026 Guam National Coral Reef Management Fellowship is Guam Department of Agriculture (DOAG), located in Mangilao, Guam. The Fellow’s work will focus on reviewing past and ongoing coral reef-related education and outreach programs, while gathering stakeholder input to develop plans and strategies for future education and outreach efforts (EO). This review will help ensure DOAG and partners can best provide education and outreach programs to meet community needs, foster environmental stewardship among Guam’s residents, and support students in natural resource management careers. The Coral Fellow will also support ongoing Guam Coral Reef Initiative (GCRI) activities and projects while working closely with GCRI managers and staff to implement program goals.

SCHOLARSHIP: US Pacific Territories Fishery Capacity-Building Scholarship (WESTPAC)
The Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council and its Education Committee members are pleased to announce the availability of up to three graduate scholarships for the 2023-2024 academic year. These scholarships support the aspiration of American Samoa, Guam and the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands to build their capacity to effectively manage their fisheries and related resources by employing people from the local communities.

The position will conduct biological surveys, invasive plant removal, and outplanting of native plants and åmot. If hired, you will work directly with the Lead Biologist, CJ Paulino.
